A Chair who feathers her nest, abuses power, and breaks the constitution is running again.
Candace Taylor Bossard Schmidt is running again for chair. If elected, this would be her second four year term as chair. She sat on council for 8 years before in District 4, and should know the rules, law and order codes, and the Constitution by now. Her conduct during this term has included abuse of power and not abiding by the Constitution. When she was six months into the term, a recall circulated to remove her. The recall process was targeted and rushed through a change through Law and Order codes by the Chairwoman's croonies. Despite member's requesting to leave the recall process alone while recalls were underway, the Tribal Council voted to change the recall process.
Then the Tribal Secretary at the time, Susie Baker, was targeted within a few weeks of the resolution being passed. This elder and District 3 representative was ganged up on in open session, because a member claimed that she felt Susie Baker was racist in her remarks. This was the claim Tribal Council used to remove Susie Baker without pay for 6 months. This was an extreme punishment for an elder in thr tribe. If racism and unethical remarks were the issue, wouldn't a class on ethics or discrimination be a more fitting punishment? No, because the goal was to move Susie Baker out of the way as the person who would legitimize the recall petitions. This allowed for the Chairwoman's brother, Kyle Taylor, to be placed as interim Tribal Secretary to oversee the recalls on his sister, the Chairwoman. This should not have been allowed as it was a conflict of interest! Why would Shanna Carpenter, Angie Starkel, or JoAn Schlotman not have been made interim Tribal secretary at the time instead? It was a setup to spoil the recall, that is why Kyle was put in as interim Tribal Secretary. Some of the current tribal council reps were instrumental in helping Chairwoman Schmidt accomplish this, they are Falon McAlpin and Shanna Carpenter who are up for re-election too. Christi Conrad, who is tryiing for Chair this election, was also part of staging this coup to remove Susie Baker, so that the recalls would not be successful.

Christi Conrad played along too, so please make choices carefully this election year! Remember, much more has happened since 3 years ago when these first went out. The tribal news is censored in the Newsletter. Candace Schmidt controls what goes in that Newsletter. She even uses it to promote herself in her "Chairwoman's corner." She uses the Newsletter to tear down Poncas too. The October 2023 Newsletter is used to respond to her recall, and to try to discredit the people trying to hold her accountable for her actions. Did she learn her lesson? It does not look to be the case. Her tyranny got worst with trying to give herself more power to micromanage the tribe. The tribe's employee turnover has gotten rediculous in the last 3.5 years, and there is so much behind the scenes going on.
