Conflict of Interest suggested by Candace Schmidt and supported by Falon McAlpin and Shanna Carpenter
The backstory is that recalls for Candace Schmidt, Falon McAlpin, and Becci Sullivan were circulating in a member-led coalition. The Tribal Council suddenly moved to push changes in the recall process, while the process was underway. The constitution called for the Tribal Secretary to view and verify the recall petitions as part of the recall process. The change added the election board as part of the verification process causing the anonymity to be more exposed. People wanted to be anonymous as they had jobs with the tribe or on boards. This added layer was a mistake for confidentiality to remain in tact.
Susie Baker was the current Tribal Council Secretary. Coincidentally or not so coincidentally, they suspended her for 6 months without pay right after changing the recalls. This left the Tribal Secretary role empty for 6 months. The video below shows clearly Candace Schmidt suggesting her brother. She mentioned that there were two possibilities, yet she only suggests Kyle Taylor for Tribal Secretary when she says the Treasurer should be secretary. Kyle Taylor is Candace Schmidt's brother. Alex Taylor is Candace Schmidt's father. Kyle Taylor was already the Treasurer, why would he be nominated as Secretary too? He is the direct relative of someone being recalled, why would they put him in that spot? It is unethical. Shanna Carpenter and JoAn Schlotman would have been a more ethical choice. People knew immediately that their confidentiality for signing the recalls would have been blown under the watchful eye of Kyle Taylor. People were afraid of losing anonymity since retaliation is a thing that has been experienced by tribe members who dare to disagree or speak out. The change to the recall process, the attack on Susie Baker, and the choice of Kyle Taylor as Tribal Secretary during an ongoing recall seem to be connected to stop the recall. Our recalls are not even fair and free with this current Tribal Council.
